12:31 - Tucked inside the Hotel Chandler in the lower reaches of midtown, 12:31 (as in 12 East 31st Street, get it?) is your typical un-crowded hotel bar, with a few unconventional twists, like the occasional appearance of a tarot card reader or belly dancer and themed events, such as a date-my-best-friend single's party for Valentine's Day. Music is strictly CDs-in-the-rack-system and the whole place looks like it could be boxed up and dropped in any generic American city hotel. Thai appetizers are paired with some mad-scientist-style drinks, seemingly thought up by an idle bar staff with too much time on their hands.
